He then progressed to a Furniture Design degree and a course in Veneering, Wood Finishing, Wood Turning. Some if his work was entered into the famous Wood Worker Exhibition in London where he was awarded a Silver Medal for his pieces.
Once he retired as a lecturer in Physics, he spent more time crafted and creating individual pieces for local clientele which included bedroom furniture, book-cases, dining room furniture and fitted kitchens.

The USP (unique-selling-point) of Richard is his desire and commitment to bring greater awareness to this dying art of craft making.

Storyline of documentary

The documentary aims to instil a feeling of closeness between the audience and Richard, you are sitting in while he chats about his life of the craft. There will three main themes of the film. Technical discussion of how he makes his work. Historical, what is his background, how he got into the hobby and finally the emotional connection, why does he feel the need to do workwork, is it to keep his mind active or to switch off from the day to day life and be in the moment doing something his loves.
Visually the tone will keep within the themes of the Mise-en-Scène for the documentary genre. The type of lighting, clothing, editing will all conform to the tropes of this genre. There will be no voice over within the film, you will only see and hear Richard, no one else.
