Film Title: Woodworker

Local artist Richard Stimson has been a woodworker for most of his life, loves the joy of crafting and creating furniture and ornaments.

Character Biography

 

Richard Stimson was first interested in model making from a young age and slowly moved onto carpentry after trying his father’s own tools. Richard took woodworking and pottery classes at secondary school and finished top of his year.

He studied at the The Old London School of Furniture University and then Advanced Furniture Making finishing with an Distinction award. He then progressed to a Furniture Design degree and a course in Veneering, Wood Finishing, Wood Turning. Some if his work was entered into the famous Wood Worker Exhibition in London where he was awarded a Silver Medal for his pieces.

Once he retired as a lecturer in Physics, he spent more time crafted and creating individual pieces for local clientele which included bedroom furniture, book-cases, dining room furniture and fitted kitchens.

 

The USP (unique selling point) of Richard is his desire and commitment to bring greater awareness to this dying art of craft making.

 

 

Statement of Intent

 

I will liaise with the client Richard to help promote and expand the awareness of this craft. Use of surveys and feedback via market research will help modify and adjust our understanding of what the potential audiences would like to see from this documentary.

 

The documentary will be filmed onsite at Richard’s own premises to provide an authentic feel. His workshed will be used to interview the subject and the tone will be trying to invokes a feeling on the audience being in the actual workshed, smelling the wood and paint, feeling the instrument to bring a further connection between them and Richard.

This is a low budget production, which Content Panda Film Company but is capable of achieving a high-quality product from the resources it is allocated to this documentary.

 

Storyline of documentary

 

The documentary aims to instil a feeling of closeness between the audience and Richard, you are sitting in while he chats about his life of the craft. There will three main themes of the film. Technical discussion of how he makes his work. Historical, what is his background, how he got into the hobby and finally the emotional connection, why does he feel the need to do workwork, is it to keep his mind active or to switch off from the day to day life and be in the moment doing something his loves.

Visually the tone will keep within the themes of the Mise-en-Scène for the documentary genre. The type of lighting, clothing, editing will all conform to the tropes of this genre. There will be no voice over within the film, you will only see and hear Richard, no one else.

 

Post Production

 

Once everything is filmed, the next important step is to edit the work, as discussed previously three main themes will be shown over the film. This will be cut using the Adobe Suite, Premiere for the editing section, Audition to clean up the quality and provide extra richness to the audio and finally After Effects to add Colour Correction plus any visual effects that are needed which includes the opening digital title, borders at the top and bottom of the film to add an extra layer of cinematic feel.

 

Once finally edited and completed the final product will be submitted to Film Festivals around the world which are specific to the documentary genre plus short film festivals. Additionally, it shall be uploaded to all the major streaming services and social media to widen the potential audience reach.
